Hey there! My name is Seanna Yoshioka. I’m a Maui girl, Starbucks lover, and self-proclaimed mermaid. I plan to major in Sociology and minor in Communication Sciences and Disorders in order to reach my goal of becoming an audiologist. I am passionate about helping people and finding ways to be an advocate. When I am not blogging for social justice or studying for my next final, you can find me enjoying the great outdoors of Hawaii and Oregon, spending time with my friends and family, or watching Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix. Coming from a mixed family of Caucasian and Asian, I’m still trying to find my identify within a cosmopolitan society. Growing up on in Hawaii, like many other students at Pacific University, has given me a unique perspective and curiosity about how people from the islands react to and engage with current events.
My goal for this blog is to unapologetically reveal the truth of the world we all live in. There is so much to be learned from nation wide movements like the Ferguson shootings and marriage equality as well as local movements and student run events that happen on our very own campus. Often times, we don’t get to see the effects our efforts have on the bigger picture, so I’m excited to be part of a team that can bring to light those results.

Hello there, my name is Alex Skylar. I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon – a city that is known for it’s abundant amount of rain, coffee, and hipsters. I am currently in my second year at Pacific and most of my time is dedicated to working towards double majoring in Sociology and Creative Writing – this blog provides me with a fantastic outlet to combine those two fields of study. My interest in social justice stemmed from my introduction to feminism in my freshman year of high school. From there, it quickly began to infiltrate many aspects of my life and has yet to subside due to the condition of the world we live in. This condition is part of why I am so passionate about trying to be an advocate for change.
My hopes for this blog lie in creating a safe space in which issues that affect different populations and groups can be discussed openly and recognized when they come about – whether that looks like addressing specific aspects of Pacific’s student life or the ways in which larger issues manifest themselves in our small community.
When I’m not trying to finish an essay that, you can probably find me walking my dog Mindi, sitting in a coffee shop writing poetry, or attempting to finish a self help book (which will inevitably never happen). I’m always happy to meet new people and find new ways to engage with Pacific’s close-knit community, so don’t be afraid to stop me if you see me on campus with questions, ideas, or just a hello.
